About La Cibo

We welcome you on the red carpet — because we believe an evening out should still feel like an occasion.

When La Cibo opened its doors in early 2026, it began with a simple idea. But as the tables began to fill, something greater took shape. We saw that Katikati was ready for a place where people could sit down, take their time and enjoy the tradition of a proper evening out.

And so, La Cibo evolved.

Artwork found its place on the walls, carefully selected wines joined the table, and the sounds of the 60s and 70s began to fill the room. Piece by piece, La Cibo developed a character of its own — shaped not by trends, but by the things we believe make dining special.

There is a certain nostalgia here. Fine food, world-class music, genuine hospitality and the simple pleasure of being looked after.

Welcome to La Cibo. Take your seat — the evening is yours.

LA CIBO TO TAKE HOME

42 Years of Excellence - Chef Tuncay Kaya

Some chefs build a menu. Tuncay Kaya has spent a lifetime building a legacy.

His story began in Kars, Turkey, before the kitchens of Alanya became the foundation of a culinary career spanning more than four decades. His craft would eventually take him around the world, competing in New York, Moscow and Berlin, where his work was recognised with gold medals.

The journey later brought Tuncay and his family to New Zealand. For more than 13 years, he has been part of hospitality in the Western Bay of Plenty — from the family’s first kebab shop in Katikati to an award-winning restaurant in Waihi Beach.

Along the way, chefs and hospitality professionals have worked beside him, learned from his experience and carried that knowledge into their own careers. It has earned him a fitting reputation among those who know him:

The Godfather of Chefs in the Western Bay of Plenty.

Today, after 42 years in the kitchen, you’ll find Tuncay at La Cibo — still cooking, still welcoming guests and still sharing the craft that has taken him around the world.

Some stories are best told in words.
Tuncay’s is best experienced at the table.

Come to La Cibo, take your seat, and meet the Godfather himself.
